Scott Meredith began as an assistant coach with Academy of Art women's basketball in August 2022.
In Meredith's debut season, the Urban Knights were able to sweep multiple Pacific West Conference opponents, set new records, and produce a
D2CCA All-West Region Second Team and
All-PacWest First Team honoree in Alisha Wilson. Highlighting the year was a
Feb.4 victory over
Biola that saw ART U allow the fewest points in a single quarter in program history (4) as well as seven
PacWest weekly awards for Wilson to also set a new record. Along the way, Wilson broke the program's career double-doubles record after she amassed 17 during the season and finished as the NCAA Division II leader in offensive rebounds per game (5.7) while also tying for the nation's highest rebounds per game average (14.8) and ranking eighth in double-doubles. In the classroom, the Knights excelled as well with six named to the
Academic All-PacWest Team.
Owner of a 259-138 overall record in his time across 13 seasons at the helm of Oregon Tech, Meredith is the all-time winningest coach in the history of the women’s basketball program. With multiple years of experience as a head coach at several levels, he also spent six seasons in California as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Santa Clara, Humboldt State (now Cal Poly Humboldt), Santa Rosa Junior College, and College of the Redwoods before arriving at Oregon Tech.
Meredith guided the Owls to two Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Championships and five trips to the NAIA National Tournament since heading the program in 2009-10. Among those postseason appearances were two advancements to the Sweet 16. In 2016, the No. 24 ranked and #7 seed Owls came back from a 16-point deficit to upset No. 8 and #2 seed Jamestown University of North Dakota. In 2019, Oregon Tech was ranked No. 25 and led wire-to-wire in defeating former back-to-back National Champion Marian University of Indiana. He recruited and coached four NAIA All-Americans and 29 all-conference selections. His squads were consistently among the top grade-point earning teams in the country with the 2016 squad earning the highest GPA (3.78) in the nation for any women’s collegiate basketball team at any level.
Prior to Oregon Tech, Meredith compiled an overall record of 152-47 at Arcata and Fortuna High Schools. His teams dominated Humboldt-Del Norte League play with an overall league record of 48-8, including four league championships and seven consecutive berths in the North Coast Section playoffs. Meredith’s 1996-97 Arcata Tigers won 28 consecutive games, finished the season 28-1, and had a mid-season ranking of No. 6 in California for all Division 3 schools. Many of Meredith’s former student-athletes advanced to play at the collegiate level, competing for schools such as Cornell, Wichita State, Sacramento State, and New Mexico State.
Originally from Northern California, Meredith was a four-sport varsity letter winner in football, basketball, baseball, and track & field at Arcata High School. He graduated from Humboldt State with his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies/Education while playing football and baseball for the Lumberjacks.
