Matthew Favela began as a volunteer for Academy of Art women's soccer in 2022 after starting with ART U men’s soccer as operations coordinator in August 2019.
ART U's 2019 campaign, Favela's first with the program, was marked by hard work, perseverance, and relentless positivity. A late goal by senior Andrew Deans pushed the Urban Knights to a victory over Saint Katherine's highlighted the regular season and eight were bestowed
Academic All-PacWest honors at the conclusion of the academic year.
Favela brings over 13 years of coaching experience at many different levels, ages, and locations. Favela has spent the last four years elevating the soccer program at Town School for Boys and has spent the last year developing the entire soccer program, for both the girls and boys, as the Coaching Director at Bay High School in San Francisco. He also runs a private soccer training program in San Francisco known as Player One Soccer SF, and is sponsored by Nike Sports.
Prior to his time at Town Schools for Boys, Favela spent time coaching in San Jose. He served as head coach for the girl’s junior varsity team and assistant coach for the varsity team at Saratoga High School while simultaneously acting as the head club women’s soccer coach at San Jose State and led the team to a Northern California Division Championship.
Favela earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Movement Science from San Francisco State University.
