Bip Roberts enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Academy of Art University baseball team.

Roberts, a former Major League Baseball second baseman and outfielder, was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round in 1982, but he officially began his career with the San Diego Padres in 1985. He remained in San Diego from 1985-1991 and had his best seasons in '89 and '90 when he combined to steal 67 bases and score 185 runs.

After being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1991, Roberts had arguably his best season in 1992 when he earned National League All-Star honors as well as team MVP of the Reds. Roberts also played for Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, and Oakland A's before retiring in 1998. For his 12-year career, Roberts has a .294 batting average, 1,220 hits, and 264 stolen bases (in top 200 amongst MLB players).

Since completing his professional baseball career, Roberts has worked with Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for three seasons as co-host for the San Francisco Giants pre-game telecasts. In 2008, Roberts took over as the head coach for the Skyline High School baseball team in Oakland, CA. He led them to the Oakland Athletic League title in his first year.

Roberts, his wife, and their children, currently live in the Bay Area.
