As a three-time World Series champion and six-time All-Star, Vida Blue is no stranger to winning at an elite level. Blue, a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher, enjoyed a 17-year career (1969-1986) in which he played for both the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants. Despite being a lefty, Blue was known as a power pitcher and for his blistering fastball. Blue finished with an impressive 209-161 record as a starter with a 3.27 ERA and 2,175 career strikeouts.
Born in Mansfield, Louisiana, Blue began his Major League career with the A's in 1969. During his eight-year span with Oakland, Blue had arguably the best season of his career (1971) when he posted a 24-8 record, led the American League in several categories (complete games, shutouts, ERA), and captured the AL Cy Young and MVP awards. Blue would later make two separate stints with the Giants, the first of which featured his famous 1978 run. That year, Blue won 18 games for San Francisco in addition to winning the National League TSN Pitcher of the Year.
