Women's Tennis Sees Top Court Success But Falls To CUI

Irvine, Calif. – In Academy of Art tennis' first match of the Southern California trip, the Urban Knights saw some success come from the top singles court, but it was Concordia who took the 6-1 triumph on their home courts.

In doubles play, the Golden Eagles struck first as they took a win on Court 3, but a dominant performance from ART U tied it up on Court 1 after sophomore Amelija Supulniece and junior Jessica Plazas claimed a 6-0 victory over Sophie Rachor and Bryn Johnson. Competing closely on Court 2, sophomore Estelle Najean and sophomore Georgiana Parr managed to put a four on the board, but Jessica Bear and Alicia Da Re prevailed 6-4 to put the home team up 1-0 on the day.

In singles action, CUI picked up another point on Court 2 after a withdrawal, and increased the lead up to three after a win on Court 3. Supulniece managed to get one on Court 1 over Rachor to put the Knights on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 score, but Da Re clinched the day for the Golden Eagles after narrowly defeating freshman Stefani Georgieva 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. CUI wrapped up the action with another pair of wins, winning on Courts 4 and 5 which included Parr and a new face to the program in sophomore and ART U women's basketball player Maddie Morrow.

The Knights will continue their road trip and next take on No. 28 Point Loma tomorrow with first serve commencing at 11 a.m. at the PLNU Tennis Courts in San Diego.
