Academy of Art track & field closed out the John Thomas Terrier Classic and Harvard Invitational with more upper tier performances on Saturday with
Ajani Ince and
Josh Marlin shining not only in their respective 200m and 400m dashes but in the 4x400m relay as well.
BOSTON, Mass. – Men's action in the John Thomas Terrier Classic featured NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals provisional qualifications from Ince and Marlin in multiple events back inside Boston's Track & Tennis Center.
Moving 11 spots up in the national rankings, Ince posted the fastest indoor 200m of his career at 21.08. The native of Barbados blitzed the 22-sprinter field, placing first by more than 0.20 seconds and, with his third Indoor Nationals provisional performance, rose to second in ART U history behind only Hall of Famer
Mobolade Ajomale and fourth in NCAA DII.
The 400m featured continued progression for Marlin who went 47.43 for his fastest time of the year not at elevation. He elevates to seventh in the nation after taking third out of a group of 28 which included
Kailen Perry who added his first Indoor Nationals provisional mark at 48.17. In the 400m open race,
Tariq Dacres also added his name to the list of Indoor Nationals provisional qualifiers with a 48.16 time that put him inside NCAA DII's top 40 this season as well as second of 95 competitors on the day.
Marlin, Ince, Dacres, and Perry joined together for the specific quartet's inaugural Indoor Nationals provisional performance in the 4x400m relay. Combining for first place of 32 squads, Academy of Art went 3:11.36 across the finish line and rose to fourth in the country.Â
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With the Harvard Invitational shifting to women's action, ART U had multiple Urban Knights claim the top spots in their respective events on Saturday.
Delivering a mark under 2:10.00 for the third time this season,
Lina Hanich followed up her new program record on Friday with a time of 2:09.29. She placed first of 24 competitors and remains second in the country in the event thus far.
Maika Cuenca-Andreo won the long jump open with a season-best 17-9.75 (5.43m) distance on her second attempt to better 14 others. Meanwhile,
Jaylen Walker flew to her own best triple jump of the year, going 38-2.25 (11.64m) for the third spot of 15 on the day.
Next up for Academy of Art will be another weekend splitting action at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis (Feb. 6-8) in Spokane and Nevada's Wolf Pack Classic (Feb. 7-8).
