Bronco's Division I Talent Finishes Ahead Of ART U

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – First serve of spring season exhibition play is here as Academy of Art women's tennis took on NCAA Division I talent in Santa Clara at the Degheri Tennis Center on Sunday morning, and it was the Broncos who came out with the 7-0 victory.

Doubles play between the Urban Knights and the Broncos saw the latter come out with wins on the top two courts, with Jillian Roa and Velizara Fileva coming out ahead against sophomore Amelija Supulniece and junior Jessica Plazas in a close 6-4 result on Court 1, and Daniella Dimitrova and Tian Yu Dong defeating sophomore Estelle Najean and sophomore Georgiana Parr 6-1. The victories were enough to clinch the doubles point in favor of SCU.

Competing on the top four courts, ART U sent out the same top three from their previous season, with Supulniece, Plazas, and Najean, while Parr was out on Court 4. Going back and forth with the strong roster of SCU, the Broncos took all four matches with Dimitrova over Supulniece 6-2, 6-1, Yu Dong ahead of Plazas 6-1, 6-2, Fileva over Najean after a close second set resulting in 6-1, 7-5, and Rahman over Parr 6-1, 6-0.

Academy of Art will compete in one more exhibition before their regular season boots up, as the Knights will take on San Jose State on Friday, Jan. 31, starting at 11 a.m.
