2025 Silver and Blue Invitational Results
RENO, Nev. – Saturday's busy finale to the Silver and Blue Invitational saw Academy of Art track & field deliver multiple NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals provisional efforts along with new 600m program records from
Lina Hanich and
Josh Marlin.
"It was great to get back to competing after a long winter break," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Kevin LaSure. "There were a lot of really impressive performances this weekend, including school records, top-10 all-time D2 marks, personal bests, etc. I'm extremely proud of the way our team competed throughout the weekend and we look forward to their continued growth throughout the season. We aren't where want to be yet but we definitely took a step in the right direction this meet. We look to get back to practice this week and continue to work to get better each day."
In her encore to a memorable
60m dash ART U record the day prior,
Toni-Ann Lindsay provisionally qualified herself for Indoor Nationals with a 56.21 in the 400m. She took second only to NCAA DI San Jose State's Alyssa Bean in the 16-competitor race and slotted in at 15th in the country thus far. It was Lindsay's second indoor 400m of her collegiate career and marked a more than 10-second improvement from last season.
Indoor Nationals provisional qualification also came on the men's side where the 4x400m relay quartet of
Tariq Dacres,
Josh Shavies,
Kailen Perry, and Marlin took down five other teams with a combined 3:14.32 effort. The mark was more than half a second better than the Urban Knights' debut time in December and placed the team fifth in NCAA DII.
Not only did a new 600m record emerge on the men's side but so did nearly an entire new ART U all-time top five. Marlin's first-place 1:19.15 surpassed the previous record set in 2020, was a new facility record, and ranked seventh in NCAA DII history with
Ethan Forbes (1:19.83) not far behind now second in program history. Taking the third and fifth-fastest times by Knights to date were
Vaughn Lacour (1:21.47) and
Taj-Leon Wisdom (1:22.70).
The women's 600m was highlighted by Hanich who, in her first time contesting the event, broke the Academy of Art record with a 1:31.99 performance across the finish line. She was first overall, bettered the previous top mark by more than four seconds, and settled in at second in NCAADII history while
Grace Southern's 1:37.46 also put her among the program's top five.
In the men's 400m, Perry bested his heat and ended up third overall out of 12 runners with a strong 48.36. Conversion for elevation unfortunately kept the time from being an Indoor Nationals provisional qualifier.
The day's penultimate event was the women's 4x400m relay which had Lindsay, Hanich,
Tresley Love, and
Michaela Andrews combine to go 3:51.45 which, like Perry, would have been an Indoor Nationals provisional mark were it not for the conversion for elevation.
Set to compete outside of Nevada for the first time this season, ART U next visits Washington for the Spokane Indoor Challenge and Spokane Sports Showcase spanning Jan. 17-18.
