Season Opener Sees Peoples Save Nine In Scoreless Tie

SAN FRANCISCO – In Thursday's local non-conference battle of Academy of Art women's soccer and Cal State Dominguez Hills, the match concluded with a full 90 minutes of scoreless action at the Urban Knights' new facility, SF Glens at Treasure Island Field, to begin the 2024 season. Graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Peoples showed up big for the squad as she put in work on the line, recording nine saves in the process as she kept the match 0-0.

The Toros (0-0-1) started the match off with the first five shots of the afternoon, as one made it on target and was collected by the keeper. The Knights (0-0-1) responded with two quick shots within a five minute span towards the end of the first half, with sophomore forward/midfielder Alanna Del Carlo's sailing just high of the crossbar and junior forward Danielle Medellin's sneaking right under from 40 yards away, but was pushed away by CSUDH's Kylie Yuzon in net.

After an eight-shot first half, the second would go on to contain 15 in total, with 12 of those coming from Dominguez Hills though the visitors could not find any to go out of their nine shots to open the second frame. Sophomore defender/forward Jade Alverio showed a spark for the Knights late in the match, striking a hard-shot ball towards the net that was saved by CSUDH's new goalkeeper Audrey Haman. Alverio would shoot once more in the 83rd minute as she came down the right side and took a shot towards the near post, but Haman once again came away with the save.

In the closing minutes, the Toros took three corners and three shots, but the Knights held strong without conceding and came out with the scoreless tie.

ART U will next face another non-conference opponent at home on Sept. 10 with a 1:30 p.m. start time as UC Merced will visit SF Glens at Treasure Island Field.
