DALY CITY, Calif. – Academy of Art women's tennis continues to find success as they win their fourth-straight match by dealing the UH Hilo Vulcans their first loss of the season 4-3 inside Bay Club South San Francisco on Monday.
"The team faced a lot of adversity today and I'm really proud how they stayed positive and fought through difficult situations," said ART U Head Coach Nicole Briceño. "This was a total team effort and I'm really proud of each player on this team for coming together and competing for each other."
As the day kicked off with competitive doubles action, the Urban Knights saw success right away as senior Viktoria Leth and junior
Paulina Alvarez once again finished first for the Knights on Court 3 and took down Julia Barden and Lehua Jordan confidently 6-1. Sophomore
Jessica Plazas and freshman
Estelle Najean followed right behind as they also controlled the tempo of their doubles pairing, defeating Satoho Toriumi and Hikari Osaki 6-2 to clinch the doubles point and start the afternoon up 1-0 as a team.
In singles, Plazas continued to excel with her strong 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nanami Okamoto in the second slot and was quickly followed by another dominant 6-1, 6-0 result from Maria Vittoria Casucci over Osaki on Court 3. Freshman Amelija Supulniece also took her match with the win finishing at 6-3, 6-3 over McKenna Mountain on Court 1, and just like that Knights were up 4-0 and clinched the win over UH Hilo. With already an assured victory for the team, junior Erica Hellbe, Najean, and Leth all remained tight with their opponents in back and forth matches to finish the day off.
