Second Half Offense From ART U Outshined By Westmont

SAN FRANCISCO – Saturday's Pacific West Conference match for Academy of Art women's soccer saw a spark within the second half, but the early scores from Westmont were too much to catch up to as the Warriors handed the Urban Knights a 3-1 defeat.

It didn't take long for Westmont to gain an initial lead over ART U, as Sierra Martin's first goal of the season put her team up in just the second minute of play. Building upon a career first half for Martin, the Warrior saw scores on two more occasions, obtaining a hat trick around the 30th minute. Parallel to Martin's impressive opening, the Warriors would take their 3-0 lead into the break after escaping an attempt from sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Dowd in the 41st minute attempting to steal one back, but it would fall just off target.

The Knights came out to the second half with a new look, dominating possession and looking to get back into the match. The first four shots of the half came from ART U, as sophomore forward Jade Alverio, sophomore midfielder Ashley Tasev, freshman midfielder Zeena Grewal, and Dowd all got one off within minutes of one another, but none managed to get through. With the best look of the day for the Knights thus far coming from Tasev, her free kick was saved off the crossbar by Ellie Ludwig in net. ART U was sure to use the momentum to their advantage as sophomore midfielder Kara Aradóttir got a shot on target shortly after before Alverio finally got one to go for her squad in the 65th minute. The score was created by a senior midfielder Valeria Perez Rivera's pass towards the right side of the box where Alverio collected the through ball and struck it towards the top left of the net. It was the first score for Alverio this season and is the second of her collegiate career.

The score from ART U was the only they would manage to see in the second half, and the match would close out with a 3-1 final in favor of Westmont.

ART U will be back at it very soon, as they will host yet another PacWest Conference match this upcoming Monday, Nov. 4 against Azusa Pacific with a 1:30 p.m. start.
