HPU's Late First Half Score Just Enough To Edge ART U

WAIPAHU, HAWAII – Squared up with Hawaii Pacific out at Waipio Stadium, Academy of Art men's soccer grounded a 1-0 deficit to the Sharks after a score in the final minutes of the first half for HPU was enough to take the victory on Sunday afternoon.

To start the match, HPU put up the first four shots as redshirt freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann collected three saves in the process within the first 12 minutes of the match. The Urban Knights and Sharks then went back and forth trading shots as freshman midfielder Andrea Mercanti and sophomore midfielder Joey Glaab each took a shot at the net, but both were unable to capitalize on their chances. It was the ninth and final shot from HPU of the half that put them up, as a cross into the box from Montreux Maeder ricocheted to Quinlan Van Arkel, who managed to sink it for the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The Knights were the ones to show more offense in the closing frame, as they outshot the Sharks 5-3. All five shots from ART U showed quality, as they were all on target. Junior forward Adrian Lechuga struck two of the looks, while senior defender Chris Stokes, freshman midfielder Keita Goto, and junior midfielder Guilherme Gomes took one apiece all while Kevin Harr in net for HPU made the save for each one.

Grollmann and Harr both delivered excellent showings in goal, as the two collected 11 saves between them.

ART U will be back at home in their next match as they'll host the Biola Eagles at SF Glens at Treasure Island Field with an 11 a.m. kickoff on Thursday, Oct. 10.
