ART U Battles Back To Level But Jessup Gains Lead Late

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Out at Warrior Soccer Field on Wednesday, Academy of Art men's soccer briefly drew level with Jessup during the second half, but the Warriors would regain the lead in the 80th minute as they would ultimately clinch a Pacific West Conference victory by a 2-1 final.

Scoring started in the first half when the Warriors struck in the 26th minute, allowing them to play with the lead. That would be the only scoring in the first 45 minutes of play, with the Urban Knights getting three shots from junior forward Kristian Lonvig and sophomore midfielder Joey Glaab with two on target, but none managed to find the net. However, that would end in the second frame as ART U would generate six shot opportunities, with one producing the first goal of the season for junior forward Adrian Lechuga in the 68th minute.

Unfortunately, the Warriors would pull back in front with 10 minutes to go in the match, thanks to Jalen Scott scoring from a Diego Nunez assist, the first goal scorer, for the eventual game-winning goal. With just minutes left in the half, both sides would get an additional shot off on target but neither would do any damage.

With four different Knights getting a shot off, as all of Glaab, Lonvig, Lechuga, and freshman midfielder Keita Goto managed at least one on goal. Making five saves was redshirt freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann, the sixth time he has made at least five saves in a match this campaign.

ART U will return home to close out 2024 with three matches left, as next up will be Westmont on Saturday, Nov. 2 starting at 11 a.m. back at SF Glens at Treasure Island Field.
