Men's Soccer Watches Dominican Take PacWest Battle

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Though Academy of Art men's soccer generated eight shots against Dominican during their Pacific West Conference clash on Thursday, ART U could not pull themselves back in as the Penguins ultimately pushed themselves to a 4-0 win.

While DUC, now 6-5-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference, took the lead in the first minute of the match after a cross from the edge of the box, they held the lead throughout the duration as they managed to keep ART U scoreless. The Urban Knights, now 1-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 in conference, saw two shots come in the opening frame trying to close the 1-0 gap before the half, but Alejandro Reyes was there on both occasions to defer the danger.

Just over six minutes into the second half, Chris Mendez-Lemus increased the lead for the Penguins as he struck a right-footed shot after a double assist from Nick Van der Waart van Gulik and Anthony Stainer. Nine minutes later Thomas Van Schoor shut the door as he scored two quick back-to-back goals in the 60th and 63rd minute.

ART U tripled their amount of shots in the second half as they got six off, as sophomore midfielder Joey Glaab, freshman midfielder Keita Goto, and redshirt freshman forward Audie Garza shot two each throughout the entirety of the match. Redshirt freshman Florian Grollmann did all he could in net as he added three saves towards his season total.

Academy of Art will be back out on the pitch in just two days as they'll come home to host Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 19 with an 11 a.m. kickoff.
