Otters' Offense Leads To Victory Over Academy of Art

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – It was tough for Academy of Art men's soccer to keep up with the offense from Cal State Monterey Bay during their non-conference showdown on Monday, as CSUMB would walk away with the victory, with a final score of 7-0.

The Otters (2-1-1) controlled much of the play against the Urban Knights (0-2-2), getting their first shot off within the first minute and scoring in the 13th minute to set the tone for the rest of the match. Despite their best efforts to remain in close, ART U would see Cal State Monterey Bay score four more times in the first half, before adding another two in the second frame. Javier Romero would be the leading goal scorer for the Otters scoring twice, while Janos Kommerling and Jose Madrigal each tacked on a goal and assist combination.

Despite the goals allowed, sophomore goalkeeper Jaiden Brooks would make four saves by the end of the match, as he now ranks tied-fourth in saves per game in the Pacific West Conference rankings. Four players for Academy of Art each recorded one shot, including a quality strike from freshman midfielder Heath Nager that was just saved by the Otters goalkeeper in the 85th minute.

The Urban Knights return to their home pitch this Friday, Sept. 15 as they will battle UC Santa Cruz beginning at 1 p.m.
