SAN FRANCISCO – In its first match of the 2023 season, Academy of Art men's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to Cal Poly Humboldt on a windy Thursday afternoon at Paul Goode Field.
Â
ART U (0-1-0) came out strong and quickly claimed the first shot of the day as redshirt sophomore forward
Elvis Mensah fired a line-drive attempt in the 13th minute that was just high of the goal. Other close scoring opportunities for the Urban Knights materialized throughout the first half, but the Lumberjacks would end up with a slight advantage in the shot differential at the break. The Urban Knights managed three other chances during this time, one by junior forward
Alejandro Palos that was on frame but was ultimately saved by the Lumberjacks goalkeeper.
Â
Cal Poly Humboldt (1-0-0) found the net for the first time in the 31st minute off a penalty kick by Cole Falco then Ethan Conaty converted a header off a corner kick from teammate Landon Leal Ruiz shortly thereafter to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage going into the half.Â
Â
With a minute remaining at the end of the second period, the Urban Knights defense allowed one final score as the Lumberjacks went up by their eventual 3-0 result.
