DAVIS, Calif. – Making its unofficial 2023-24 season debut on Monday inside University Credit Union Arena, Academy of Art women's basketball showed quite a bit of versatility despite dropping a 102-52 exhibition versus NCAA Division I UC Davis.
Though the Aggies opened on a 13-0 run, freshman guard
Maddie Morrow's first of three 3-pointers got ART U on the scoreboard. Freshman guard
Anna Fornells doubled the Knights' point total with a triple two minutes later and she would soon join junior forward
Yasmine Sifaoui in supporting a 4-0 burst to begin the second quarter. A layup by freshman guard
Lucia Revenga combined with two more Morrow 3-pointers in the final minute and 10 seconds of the first half, sending Academy of Art into the locker room trailing UCD 52-25.
A 9-0 surge began the second half for UC Davis, but points from Revenga brought some rhythm to the ART U offense which featured four layups for the remainder of the quarter including three by sophomore guard
Alba Rovira Ayuso. Triples by graduate student guard
Emilia Dougherty and Fornells came in quick succession early in the fourth and, though Rovira Ayuso would continue to convert in the paint, the Aggies went on to win 102-52.
All but one Urban Knight scored and all but one recorded at least one assist in the contest. Pacing ART U offensively was Rovira Ayuso's 13 points which came along with four rebounds and three steals while Revenga also reached double figures, scoring 11 points and adding five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Morrow finished with nine points on three 3-pointers, Fornells contributed eight points, Sifaoui provided five rebounds, and Dougherty dished out three assists.
