Women's Soccer Drops Tough Match To Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – It was tough for Academy of Art women's soccer to keep up with the offense from Westmont during their Pacific West Conference showdown on Monday, as the Warriors would walk away the victors, 10-0.

The Warriors, who improved to 4-1-2 in conference and 6-2-5 overall, controlled much of the play against the Urban Knights, now 0-8-0 in conference and 2-13-0 overall, scoring three times in the first 20 minutes to set the tone of the match.

Despite their best efforts, ART U would see Westmont score three more times in the first half, before adding four more in the second frame. Amarys Machado and Amelia Villa each had six points for Westmont, with Grace Duckens also having a two-goal match.

Regardless of the goals allowed, freshman goalkeeper Kayla Hampton would make 10 saves by the end of the match, remaining in first place in the PacWest Conference in saves per game (8.00 average). Freshman defender/forward Jade Alverio was the leading shot taker for Academy of Art with two (one on goal), with junior defender Haley Vaughan and sophomore forward Danielle Medellin each adding a shot on goal as well.

ART U will return to the pitch this Thursday, as they take on the Sea Lions of Point Loma at PLNU Soccer Field, with a kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
