SAN FRANCISCO -- Academy of Art University Athletics has officially announced
Fernando Magana as its new assistant athletic trainer. With over six years of experience providing healthcare services, Magana joins the ART U Sports Medicine department following stints at the NCAA Division I and II, high school, and junior college levels.
After earning a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology - Exercise Science from Cal State Northridge in 2019, Magana spent two seasons working with Fresno State's football and men's basketball sports programs. While pursuing a master's degree in Athletic Training that he would obtain in 2022, Magana assisted with pre-participation physical exams, provided practice and game coverage, and, as a senior immersive with football, assisted taping, bracing, and lead rehabilitation programs.
In addition to his work with Fresno State, Magana assisted ART U's fellow Pacific West Conference member Fresno Pacific with various evaluations and analyses in addition to assisting with hosting the 2022 PacWest Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments. He could be found helping Clovis West High School in the spring of 2021, providing coverage for football, basketball, and soccer among other responsibilities.
A recipient of the Birger Johnson Memorial Scholarship and Dr. Thomas Thaxter Memorial Scholarship, Magana is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, California Athletic Trainers Association, and Far West Athletic Trainers Association as well as a CPR and AED professional rescuer.
