ART U Battles Cold Conditions At NCAA DII West Regionals

2022 NCAA Division II West Regionals Results

BILLINGS, Mont. – Academy of Art men's and women's cross country persevered through a snow-covered course on Saturday morning for the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships out at Amend Park. Leading the men to 20th as a team, graduate student Sebastian Rivera Del Hierro placed in the race's upper half at 61st overall while freshman Lisa Redlinger paced the 16th place women with an individual finish inside the top 45.

0With all 150 runners spending a minimum of 30 minutes in action on the 10k course amid temperatures in the low 20s, ART U had its top finisher as Rivera Del Hierro followed by senior Hudson Lockette. Rivera Del Hierro crossed the line in 61st overall (59th among runners counting toward their respective team scores), sporting a time of 32:05.8 while Lockette secured 113th place (108 toward team score) at 33:28.6 in his final collegiate cross country race.

All within six spots of one another, the final three Urban Knights qualifiers were graduate student Owen Day (34:59.4) in 136th overall (129 toward team score), freshman Vaughn Lacour (35:04.1) in 138th overall (131 toward team score), and redshirt freshman Jaden Singleton (35:22.1) in 142nd (134 toward team score).

As a team, Academy of Art scored 561 points to finish 20th overall ahead of Seattle Pacific (576) and back of Central Washington (529) as well as fourth among Pacific West Conference squads. The top group to finish was Chico State (48) with three runners inside the top 10, but the first across the line individually was Charlie Dannatt (30:07.5) of Simon Fraser.

Challenging 167 other runners from the West Region in her first action since Oct. 8, Redlinger ran her second-fastest time of the season at 22:19.5 to place 44th overall (10th among freshmen). Redshirt senior Audrey Rosencrans closed out her collegiate cross country career just 11 spots behind her teammate in 55th overall with a time of 22:31.0.

The final trio to qualify for Academy of Art was all within six spots of one another as sophomore Michaela Andrews (23:32.8) claimed 110th overall (109 toward team score) followed by junior Delanie Dykes (23:37.0) in 114th overall (113 toward team score) and sophomore Lina Hanich (23:37.8) in 116th overall (115 toward team score).

In the combined team score, ART U (436) 16th overall narrowly in front of Cal State Monterey Bay (439) and not far from Cal Poly Humboldt (425) as well as fifth among PacWest squads. Leading all teams was Stanislaus State (91) despite two competitors from Alaska Fairbanks, Naomi Bailey (20:53.1) and Kendall Kramer (20:58.5), securing the top two individual placements.
