FRESNO, Calif. – A 3-pointer from senior guard
Dante Williams had Academy of Art men' basketball within one possession of Fresno Pacific midway through the first half on Tuesday, but ART U could not complete the come-from-behind effort as FPU would take the final matchup of the season between the two teams by a final of 83-79.
Not even seven second-half 3-balls could help the Urban Knights (3-8, 2-7 PacWest) in this Pacific West Conference matchup, as they knocked down half of their looks in the half and finished the game at 44.4 percent from downtown, their best mark from deep of the campaign. It was a roller coaster of a game, as every time that the Sunbirds (9-4, 8-0 PacWest) would jump to what seemed to be a comfortable lead, ART U would come storming back and cut the lead down to one or two possessions. It was just a two-point game after the third and final trey of the night from Williams, but a quick five points for FPU shifted the momentum back towards the Sunbirds for good.
Thanks to team-highs in points (19) and rebounds (13), senior forward
Josh Hill collected his eighth double-double of the season and also moved into
second place in ART U career rebounds. With a total of 384 for his career, Hill passes former teammate
Victor Ruiz de Carranza's 377 and trails only the 612 from
Hunter Hayden (2008-2012) in first place. Just one game removed from their most assists on the season, ART U moved the ball well again and recorded another 18 assists. Senior guards
Joshua Bagley and
Stefan Milivojevic combined for 12 of those with six apiece, tying a career-high in assists for Milivojevic (twice). Williams would end his night with 14 points, while Milivojevic and redshirt junior guard
Jalen Lovett chipped in 12 points apiece.
Leading all scorers in the game was Fresno Pacific's Aamondae Coleman, going 10-for-16 from the floor to record 25 points with four rebounds. Four other Sunbirds scored in double figures, with Adrian Antunez adding 14 points as well as six rebounds, and Nate Kendricks kicking in 13 points.
The Urban Knights will look to rebound on Friday when they return to the court for Senior Night to take on the Penguins with tip off set for 5 p.m.
