SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – A scoreless tie through the first 55 minutes, Sunday's Pacific West Conference rematch between Academy of Art women's soccer and Dominican went the Penguins' way after two goals were tallied in the second half at Kennelly Field.
In a reversal of roles, the Urban Knights (1-4-0, 1-4-0 PacWest) hosted Dominican (4-0-0, 4-0-0 PacWest) on the Penguins' home turf and the designated visitors came out firing. Senior goalkeeper
Lara Pflicke was busy right away, notching three of her four first half saves in the opening 11 minutes.
Though sophomore goalkeeper
Nicole Peoples stopped the first two shots she faced to start the second half, the third found the back of the net as Tanya Bills played a ball from Sofia Odron, used a hesitation move, and scored in the 56th minute. The heavy Dominican offense yielded another goal in the 78th minute when a foul in the box allowed Claire Brown to net a penalty kick for what would end up the 2-0 final score.
ART U will compete in its final match of the 2021 spring season this Friday when the Urban Knights host Holy Names at Paul Goode Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. following the men's match.
