SAN FRANCISCO – Carrying the momentum of two wins in its first two matches, Academy of Art men's soccer ended up falling 1-0 to Holy Names out at Paul Goode Field on Thursday morning. After registering several attempts on frame in the final 15 minutes of the half, ART U stayed scoreless along with HNU through the intermission before a goal in the 51st minute put the Hawks in front for the remainder of regulation.
In the early going, Holy Names (1-0, 1-0 PacWest) had the first four shots with the last being saved by junior goalkeeper
Davis King. The Urban Knights (2-1, 2-1 PacWest) responded, however, forcing HNU goalie Robby Rosas to make plays on their final three shots by sophomore midfielder
William Mychaltchouk, senior forward
Adrian Cekala, and sophomore defender
Amani Williams.
The Hawks' third attempt of the second half found the back of the net as Pablo Ramirez got HNU on the scoreboard in the 51st minute. From there, Holy Names rattled off 10 more shots, but King was there to stop the two on frame. Four corner kicks ensued for ART U over a 10-minute span in the later stages of the match, but 1-0 would remain the final score.
Mychaltchouk, Williams, and freshman midfielder
Elvis Mensah each ended with two shots apiece while King's seven saves were a season-best. For HNU, Ramirez led all players with six total shots and four on target including the goal.
Academy of Art remains on the road in its next matchup, a 4 p.m. pairing with Fresno Pacific on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
