SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art women's tennis took a dual match with Point Loma all the way down to the wire on Tuesday, but it was PLNU who walked away from Bay Club SF Tennis with the 4-3 victory.
The Sea Lions (6-4) captured the crucial doubles point early on by winning courts one and three, followed by three wins in singles action to clinch the match. The lone doubles win for ART U came from freshmen
Ella Lynn-Browne and Maria Casucci, as they took out Taylor McGowan and Gabi Armas, 6-2.
After a win at position one from
Mariacristina Andrisani over Ellie Gamble, 6-1, 6-2, PLNU would win the next two and were on the verge of clinching. Freshmen
Julia Ortega and Casucci would not let that happen, coming away with wins at the sixth and third positions, respectively. Ortega would defeat Faith Pearson 7-5, 7-6(7-0) while Casucci outlasted Rachel Whittington in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. However, the final singles contest would go the way of the Sea Lions.
The Urban Knights will return to the court on March 15 and 16 when they travel to Azusa, Calif. to take on No. 9 ranked Central Oklahoma and No. 13 ranked Azusa Pacific.
