LA MIRADA, Calif. – Academy of Art women's basketball was on fire out of the gate, holding Biola to the fourth-fewest points in a single quarter in program history while going up by 11, but ART U ended up dropping a 71-49 Pacific West Conference result inside Chase Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
It was a tale of two quarters in the second half with the Urban Knights jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the opening give minutes after they forced six turnovers while shooting over 55 percent from the field. Junior guard/forward
Lily Perkins had six points all on high-percentage looks in the paint during that run and junior forward
Megan Jefferson added the final two baskets en route to an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Stout ART U defense held BU to just 8.3 percent shooting from the field and the fourth-fewest point total (7) since the quarter format began in 2015-16 behind Cal State East Bay (5 in
2016), Notre Dame de Namur (6 in
2017), and Holy Names (6 in
2017).
After a jumper by senior guard
Josselyn Morris put the Knights ahead 20-12 midway through the second, the Eagles promptly knocked down three 3-pointers during a game-changing 15-0 run. Up by seven, Biola knocked down two more triples down the stretch to go into the halftime locker room up 35-26.

The hot shooting from long range continued for BU in the second half with three triples powering a 15-1 push to begin the third quarter. Graduate student guard
Tayler Bennett stopped the surge with a jumper, but the Eagles took a 61-34 advantage into the fourth and claimed a 71-49 victory at the final buzzer.
ART U moves to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in PacWest action with the day's result. Perkins totaled a team-high 12 points with five rebounds and three steals while Morris contributed 10 points and eight rebounds to tie her career-high. Bennett and junior guard
Pam Wilmore had eight points apiece and combined for seven steals. Bennett had six rebounds as well and Wilmore grabbed four steals.
For Biola, now 11-4 on the year and 7-2 in conference play, four players scored in double figures led by 13 apiece from Jazz Benn and Aysia Johnson. Johnson had the game's lone double-double with 13 rebounds to her name as well.
Remaining in Southern California for the next two days, Academy of Art travels to San Diego for a 2 p.m. matchup with Point Loma this Monday, Jan. 13.
