Men's Soccer Falls to Saints

SAN FRANCISCO – The Urban Knights kept the match close and fought hard the entire 90 minutes, but Academy of Art fell 2-0 to Saint Martin's, Thursday at Paul Goode Field.

ART U kept the Saints off the board in the early minutes of the first half, but in the 29th the Saint's scored their first goal of the day on a header by Brandon Madsen. SMU sent in a corner-kick to the far post where Cole Mattson headed the ball in the direction of Madsen, who lowered his head and sent the ball to the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Urban Knights had an opportunity to equalize in the 38th when senior midfielder Andrew Deans intercepted a false clearance. Deans settled the ball with one touch then sent a shot flying from two yards outside the penalty box but it was just wide of the net. Two minutes later the Saints put a shot on target forcing sophomore goalkeeper Davis King to record his first career save with a brilliant save on a shot from just outside the goal box.

Academy of Art defended well in the second half and had three more opportunities, but SMU found the back of the net once again in the 75th on Madsen's second goal of the day forcing ART U to take a 2-0 loss.

King ended his first career start with a pair of saves and freshman midfielder William Mychaltchouk recorded the first shots of his career (2), while junior forward Adrian Cekala and sophomore midfielder Edvard Edvarsson claimed the only two shots on goal.

After the loss, the Urban Knights fall to 0-4. ART U will look to bounce back on Sept. 22 when they take on Chico State at University Soccer Stadium in Chico, Calif. starting at noon.
