WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Sophomore forward
Fannar Omarsson scored his first goal of the season, but Academy of Art men's soccer dropped a 4-1 decision to Hawaii Pacific on Monday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.
Omarsson's goal came in the 28th minute, shortly after the Sharks got on the board. The equalizing goal started with a shot on target by sophomore midfielder
Breki Einarsson, who earned the assist on the play. Einarsson ripped a shot that was too hot to handle for the Sharks keeper and went through his hands right to the foot of Omarsson who knocked it in to tie the match 1-1. Einarsson now leads the team in assists and is second in points for ART U.Â
The third goal in less than eight minutes was scored in the 31st by HPU's Luiz Garcia for a 2-1 Shark lead. The Urban Knights played solid defense the remainder of the period and went into halftime trailing 2-1.Â
Another 30 minutes of scoreles play ensued in the second half until Reece Montgomery extended HPU's lead to 3-1. Omarsson had a chance at his first career brace, putting a shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but his efforts were thwarted by the Sharks' keeper. HPU launched a quick, successful counterattack after the shot and scored their final goal in the 83rd minute, solidifying their 4-1 victory.Â
Junior forward
Adrian Cekala ended the match with a team-high three shots, including one on goal. Both senior midfielder
Isiah Quiros and Omarsson both had two shots on goal apiece and sophomore goalkeeper
Davis King collected five saves.
Academy of Art looks ahead to their final match of the season against UH Hilo on Nov. 14.
