Blatancic Drops 31 in Loss to Vulcans

SAN FRANCISCO -- Despite career-high scoring from junior forward Andrija Blatancic, ART U's winning streak was snapped on an 83-72 loss to UH Hilo, Friday night at Kezar Pavilion.

Blatancic's 31 points are the sixth highest single game scoring performance in program history. Furthermore, Blatancic has now scored 24 or more points in three consecutive games for a total of 81 points. He shot an impressive 11-15 from the field, 9-11 from the free throw line, and grabbed four rebounds. As a team, the Urban Knights shot nearly 50% from the field and out rebounded UHH 30-25.

The two teams traded shots, and were tied at eight early in the game with ART U striking first as senior center Cameron Niven finished a layup off the opening tip. After a brief timeout, the Vulcans took to the court with an offensive run that put the Urban Knights down 14-10 with 13:49 left in the half.

A successful visit to the free throw line by sophomore forward Luka Radovic, and a layup by senior guard Cobe Williams tied the game at 16 with just over 12 minutes in the first half. C Williams played a large role in the offense, shooting 4-7 from the field, and 2-3 from beyond the arc for 10 points. The senior also led the team in assists for the second straight game with four.

An and-one layup from Blatancic narrowed the Vulcan's lead to 22-19. UHH took the momentum back and went ahead 30-21 before junior guard Victor Ruiz de Carranza narrowed their lead to 30-26 after finishing an offensive rebound that sent him to the line where he completed the three point play. Carranza recorded a double-double against his old team, and tied his season high in points with 13, while adding 12 rebounds and four steals to his stat line. The Vulcans went into the half leading 38-31.

After opening the second half down by 14, the Urban Knights went on an 11-5 run bringing the score 50-42. ART U stayed within single digits of the Vulcans through the remainder of the half and despite out scoring UHH 26-12 in the paint, they were unable to overtake the lead.

The lead eventually extended into double digits and ultimately ART U fell to the Vulcans 83-72 bringing the Knight's overall record to 3-9, and conference record to 3-4. ART U will look to bounce back when they face Biola at home on Monday, Jan 7 at 7:30 p.m.
