2018 Payton Jordan Invitational Results
STANFORD, Calif. – Gatien Airiau continued his success out at Cobb Track & Angell Field this season with his second time breaking the Academy of Art 3000m Steeplechase record on Thursday evening in Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational.
In a steeplechase that featured NCAA Division II leader Kyle Medina of Chico State and numerous NCAA DI runners, Airiau pushed for an 8:46.82 to better his own program record (set at this year's
Stanford Invitational) by nearly three full seconds. He maintains his position as third in the country and one of just five Nationals automatic qualifiers.
"It is wonderful to have access to a meet like Payton Jordan so close by," said director of track & field/cross country
Torrey Olson. "It's also great to see our student-athletes take nationally significant steps forward in the final weeks of the season. Gatien's run was excellent, but what is most exciting is that there is even more there for him. I'm excited for what is to come."
A lifetime-best also came from
Marion Presigny in the 100m hurdles where she went 13.73 for what is now the eighth-fastest time run in the country this season.
In the 100m,
Mobolade Ajomale dropped below the time that made him Pacific West Conference champion with a 10.53 on Thursday while
Arrun Palacio ran his first collegiate 100m at 10.96.
Nicolas Morales Williams was a fraction of a second shy of his own lifetime-best in the 400m, going 49.69.
As Academy of Art winds down its regular season with NCAA Division Nationals due in three weeks, the Knights will next have chances to qualify at the Sacramento State Open this Saturday, May 5.
