2018 Cardinal Classic (Final)
Completing its meets in both Southern and Northern California, Academy of Art University Track & Field finished the Cardinal Classic and Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
STANFORD, Calif. – In the finale of Stanford's Cardinal Classic out at Cobb Track & Angell Field, multiple lifetime-bests came in both the men's and women's 1500m events.
Gatien Airiau unleashed a personal record with his 3:47.87 mark. The time was a NCAA Nationals provisional qualifier and placed him 15th in the country. Also in the 1500m, four other Urban Knights posted lifetime-bests including
Marvin Thomas (3:51.11),
Victor Moreau (3:51.47),
Rabah Houali (3:51.83), and
Freddie Hessian (3:52.83). Thomas is currently fifth on the Academy of Art all-time list.
In the women's 1500m,
Beatriz Martinez Mercado ran the best time of her career with a 4:31.57. In addition to being a Nationals provisional qualifier and top 30 mark, the result edged her ever closer to
Jenny Bergren's program record of 4:31.03.
TORRANCE, Calif. – Amid numerous high school events inside El Camino College's Murdock Stadium, the Mt. SAC Relays concluded on Saturday.
The men's 100m featured a 10.39 mark for
Mobolade Ajomale across the finish line and the women's 4x400m relay produced a season-best 3:49.81.
When ART U next steps onto a competitive track, it will be for the Pacific West Conference Championships on Apr. 27-28. Fresno Pacific serves as this year's host school.
