In the respective conclusions of the Pepsi Florida Relays, the SF State Distance Carnival, and Stanford Invitational, Saturday saw Academy of Art deliver numerous program records with the Urban Knights covering quite a bit of new ground.
GAINSVILLE, Fla. – On the third and final day of the Pepsi Florida Relays, it was a quartet of ART U sprinters who walked away with a program record.
In the program's first outdoor 4x200m relay, the collection of
Marlon Britton,
Mobolade Ajomale,
Arrun Palacio, and
Kaze Poitier posted a 1:27.60.
HAYWARD, Calif. – Concluding the SF State Distance Carnival at Chabot College, Academy of Art had several strong efforts from its distance specialists.
The Knights opened the day with the mile where
Gatien Airiau followed up his
Nationals automatic qualifier in the 3000m Steeplechase with the top mark of the meet. His 4:15.62 time put him first of 41 total competitors and second on the program's all-time list behind record-holder Valentin Pepiot (4:04.85).
"
Gatien Airiau took a big step forward in his part of the plan this weekend," said director of track & field/cross country
Torrey Olson. "It is so important in this part of our season for student-athletes to see each race as a part of their plan and Gas was a great example of that this weekend in California. We also had some good steps forward with many of our 1500m runners and I'm looking forward to getting in a good block of training these next few weeks."
In the women's mile,
Jamie Morris became the program's new record-holder with a time of 5:16.80. She won her heat and ended up eighth overall out of 44 total runners. In the same heat,
Madeline Dignadice was not far behind her teammate, posting a 5:23.10 for 12th overall.
In the first outdoor Distance Medley Relay in Academy of Art history,
Joshua Thorson,
Moses Crawford,
Nicolas Boffman, and
Logan Briner produced a time of 10:45.75.
The top ART U 800m time of the season, a Nationals provisional 2:12.42, came from current record-holder
Beatriz Martinez Mercado who crossed the finish line 10th of 110 runners.
On the men's side of the 800m,
Victor Moreau took 34th place of 119 competitors with a 1:55.63 while
Marvin Thomas came through in 41st at 1:56.14.
STANFORD, Calif. – Just two Urban Knights competed out at Cobb Track & Angell Track on the final day of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
Rabah Houali put his name on the Academy of Art all-time list, going 1:54.41 for the fifth-fastest mark in program history.
Academy of Art will return to Chabot College in Hayward for its next meet, the Cal State East Bay Invitational, spanning Apr. 13-14.
