ART U Falls to Chaminade after Second-Half Run

SAN FRANCISCO – Coming off of their hottest win-streak in program history, Academy of Art looked to keep the momentum alive on Monday night when they welcomed in Chaminade to Kezar Pavilion. After a back-and-forth battle throughout, the Silverswords eventually overcame a first-half deficit and pulled away in the second to deny the Urban Knights a fourth-consecutive victory.

ART U got off to a hot streak to open the first half, outscoring Chaminade 10-2 to begin the game. Junior center Cameron Niven contributed seven points during that time to begin what would become a big night for the Castro Valley Calif. native. The Silverswords then proceeded to return the favor by putting together a small run of their own. However, the Knights were able to contain the damage and kept their advantage until the 12:51 mark. The lead continued to switch hands for the remainder of the period, but Academy of Art found themselves in control with a 1-point lead (33-32) as both sides headed into the locker rooms.

Entering the second period, ART U continued to hold their own as they never trailed by more than four points for the opening seven and a half minutes. The Urban Knights continued to keep things close, but the Silverswords eventually built themselves as much as a 19-point advantage with 4:38 remaining on the clock. The Knights fought back however, refusing to go down easily. Before the end of the contest, ART U had erased a small portion of the deficit, but they ultimately fell by the final score of 91-77.

As previously mentioned, Niven had a big night, scoring a total of 21 points while contributing four rebounds and an assist. Senior guard Kendall Brown also scored 21 points on the night along with nine rebounds and an assist. The third Urban Knight to score double-digit figures was junior guard Cole Morgan (13 points, five rebounds, and two steals).

ART U will play their fourth and final game of the homestand on Saturday, January 20 when they host the PacWest-leading Trailblazers of Dixie State at 3:30 p.m.
