KEA'AU, Hawaii – Academy of Art women's soccer dropped the first match of their three-Hawaiian contests, falling to UH Hilo by a score of 0-4.
Â
It did not take long for the Vulcans to get on the board as they scored twice within the first 12 minutes. The first goal took place in the sixth-frame with the second following in the 12th. The Urban Knights responded with a shot in the 25th-minute from senior midfielder
Abigail Chavez, but the attempt was saved by Hilo's goalkeeper.
Â
The Vulcans added two more in the second period to take a four-goal lead. However, if it were not for a solid defensive-effort, the damage could have been worse. Out of 20 shots, ART U successfully denied 80 percent of their attempts, only allowing four to find the net. Making her first start of the season, junior goalkeeper
Morgan Wirz collected six saves, her highest mark of the season. The Urban Knights had two shots in total, coming from Chavez and junior midfielder
Alice Michell.
Â
ART U will now head to Oahu for their next two matchups, taking on Chaminade on October 3 and Hawaii Pacific on October 5.
