2017 Payton Jordan Invitational Results
With NCAA Division II Nationals a little less than three weeks away, Academy of Art University track & field had some impressive marks come out of the Oxy Invitational on Saturday.
LOS ANGELES – Hosted by Occidental College, the Oxy Invite featured two season-bests in the 4x100m relays as well as various personal bests around the track.
Staying sharp for Nationals,
Mobolade Ajomale saw action in both the 400m and the men's 4x100m. In just the fourth individual outdoor 400m of his career, Ajomale crossed the finish line at 47.46 for not only his quickest mark to date, but also the 21st-fastest time by a NCAA Division II athlete thus far.
Ajomale would also team with
Christian Carter,
Michane Ricketts, and
Craig Mattox, for a season-best 40.67 in the 4x100m relay. One week after their personal best at the PacWest Conference Championships, the ART U quartet now finds itself up to 12th in the country.
A new season-best came for the women's 4x100m relay as well. The team of
Rian Young-Werner,
Jasmine Grace,
Amanda Odesjo, and
Jameela Muhammad posted a 46.75, rising them to 37th nationally.
Grace would also turn in a personal record 24.54 in the 200m dash. The mark was wind-legal and put her 12th of 39 in the event.
Gatien Airiau delivered a personal record 14:26.97 in the 5000m in the later portion of the day and settled into the country's top 30 as a result. He becomes fourth in program history as well.
A huge personal record came for
Marion Presigny in the 400m hurdles as a fast first heat saw her go 1:00.27. The time brought her up to 10th in the country and put her now third in program history.
Both
Mistic Scott and
Schae Graham were once again running side-by-side in the 400m, finishing 10th and 11th respectively. Scott went 55.32 while Graham turned in a new personal best 55.56 and remains top 30 in the country.
The men's 1500m saw
Kris Everett build upon his season-best from the PacWest Conference Championships with a new season-best, going 3:55.16.
STANFORD, Calif. – A small contingent of Urban Knights competed at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday as well. Among those individuals,
Desmond Deshay competed in both the 100m and 200m,
Kaze Poitier took second in the 200m and fifth in the 400m, and
Folke Woch was in the 100m, 200m, and 100m hurdles.
Academy of Art has one final regular season meet on the schedule with the University of San Francisco West Coast Last Chance Meet coming up on Saturday, May 13 at SF State's Cox Stadium.
