Hensley Is All-American, Ajomale Leads 200m

2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Results (Day 2)

BRADENTON, Fla. –
Competing under hotter conditions more typical of Florida on Friday, the Urban Knights highlighted day two of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships with their first All-American as well as finals qualifiers in the men's 200m and women's 4x400m relay prelims. Hannah Hensley became the program's second All-American in the heptathlon with a personal record, Mobolade Ajomale cruised to first out of the 200m prelims, and one of the fastest times in ART U history came from a quartet in the 4x400m prelims.

15824Entering day two of the heptathlon in sixth with 3,092 points, Hensley began with an 18-10.75 (5.76m) mark in her first long jump attempt and would go on to hold her position. A bit of déjà vu came in the javelin where the sophomore had her best distance, 104-3 (31.78m), on her opening attempt.

Then, amid weather that was in the high 80s with nearly 80 percent humidity, Hensley endured a grueling 800m finale, finishing ninth at 2:25.16. After the final point totals were settled, the Interior Architecture & Design major would claim seventh overall with a new personal record 5,134 points (32 points shy of the program record that made Jesseka Raymond the first ART U All-American in the heptathlon).

Less than 24 hours after leading the 100m prelims, Ajomale added another No. 1 mark in the 200m. The Richmond Hill, Canada native was the only sprinter of 19 who competed to run a sub-21.00, crossing the finish line at 20.75. Shorter's Lester Miller was the next fastest at 21.11 as Ajomale set himself up for his second event final on Saturday.

15823With long shadows being cast across the track at IMG Academy, the women's 4x400m proved to be a particularly shining moment as Marion Presigny, Mistic Scott, Jasmine Grace, and Schae Graham combined for the fourth-fastest time in program history. Their 3:41.71 would get them third in their heat and, though not an automatic qualifier to the finals, still assured them a place as they held onto seventh by more than a full second.

Prior to the 4x400m, Presigny fought her way into fourth in the opening heat of the 100m hurdles prelims, but her 13.87 ended up 0.08 seconds shy of the second automatic qualifying mark. She would await the results of the two heats that followed and, in the end, took 13th of 22 which served as an improvement on her 17th seed entering the competition.

Only a few hours after hoisting her heptathlon trophy, Hensley faced challenges in the individual high jump event. Following two misses on the opening bar height, she was able to clear and advanced as far as the third round, passing 5-5.75 (1.67m). The sophomore unfortunately could not clear the 5-7.25 (1.71m) height that followed and would finish in a tie for 16th overall.

In the men's 4x400m relay, a tough result came for Michael Houston, Quinlan Wright, Christian Carter, and Ajomale. The team offered a 3:14.86, but missed out on the finals by three and a half seconds, taking 13th in the end.

Saturday, the third and final day of the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships, will see Knights contest four events to become All-Americans. Those will be as follows: men's 100m (3:45 p.m. PT), men's 400mH (4:30 p.m. PT), men's 200m (4:55 p.m. PT), and the women's 4x400m (5:55 p.m. PT).
