Presigny Hoists All-American Trophy On Day 2

2017 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Back inside the Birmingham Crossplex for the second day of the 2017 Indoor Track & Field National Championships, Academy of Art University saw two impressive accomplishments. Marion Presigny finished the five-part pentathlon as an All-American while Mobolade Ajomale delivered another top mark in the 200m prelims, ensuring his spot in Saturday's event finals.

15584"Marion competed well today," said head coach Kevin LaSure. "She went out there and gave each event of the pentathlon everything she had. Finishing in the top eight in the country is never easy so when any athlete does so and makes the podium it is a huge honor. We are extremely proud of the way Marion completed today and I am sure there will be many more huge performances from her in the future."

The pentathlon started on a high note for Presigny who posted a personal record 8.65 in the 60m hurdles. She moved from second to third place overall after the high jump, delivering another season-best of 5-5 (1.65m) to take third in the event.

Although she finished 15th in the shot put with a distance of 29-11.25 (9.12m), Presigny came right back with success in her best event, the long jump. There she placed seventh and moved up to seventh in the field with an 18-1.5 (5.52m) mark. Right on the edge of being an All-American heading into the final event, the 800m, Presigny made a strong final push down the stretch to take sixth place (2:23.66). She would finish the entire competition in eighth overall, making the podium with a total of 3,731 points.

In the men's 200m prelims, Ajomale once again dominated the field. He won the fifth and final heat and rose to the top of the 17 runners in action with a time of 21.09. Like his result in Thursday's 60m prelim, Ajomale's mark was considerably better than the next closest competitor, Demontez McCray of McKendree, who went 21.21 in his heat.

The Urban Knights will have a busy championship Saturday as five events are on tap for ART U. Rian Young-Werner starts in the triple jump (12:35 p.m. PT), Ajomale defends his title in the 60m (12:50 p.m. PT), Hannah Hensley contests the high jump (1:55 p.m. PT), Ajomale is back in the 200m (2:30 p.m. PT), and the women's 4x400m relay finishes the day at 3:15 p.m. PT.
