Ajomale Earns DII National Athlete of Week

USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week (Feb. 28)

NEW ORLEANS -- Mobolade Ajomale has returned to the top.

After delivering two of the fastest times NCAA Division II has seen this year at the Boston University Last Chance Meet on Feb. 26, the 2016 Olympic medalist captured the honor of DII National Athlete of the Week as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday.

Following his auto qualifying 6.70 in the 60m prelim, Ajomale proceeded to better that mark by a considerable margin, going 6.64 in the final. He rose above previous auto qualifiers Lester Miller (6.67) of Shorter and Reginald Thomas (6.69) of Tiffin.

Less than an hour after his 60m feat, Ajomale returned for the 200m and went 20.85 to put him in the country's leading spot. His time was 0.03 from his own NCAA Division II record set at last year's indoor championships. The sophomore now leads all of NCAA Division II by more than three-tenths of a second.

This is Ajomale's second career National Athlete of the Week award since he first earned the honor on Feb. 2, 2016 following his collegiate debut.
