The Urban Knights had a chance at the win in regulation and led early in overtime, but the Argonauts rallied behind a 7-4 run exclusively on made free throws to finish the extra period on top 84-81 inside Kezar Pavilion on Wednesday evening.

After nearly two scoreless minutes to start the game, senior forward Helena Orts hit a 3-pointer to get ART U on the board. NDNU, however, responded with a 12-2 run, but triples by Orts and redshirt senior guard Jazzlynn Brewster plus three more points from redshirt senior forward Pre'Franz Dominick helped Academy of Art end the opening quarter up 14-12.

The Knights' first eight points of the second frame came exclusively from senior guard/forward Hayley Pryor who hit a pair of triples while keeping her team close. Notre Dame de Namur had worked a five-point advantage with two minutes left, but multiple fastbreak layups by freshman forward Camilla Simola whittled that lead down to a 32-32 tie score at halftime.

16618That five-point margin was again gained by the Argos in the third quarter and went as high as six points midway through, but a 9-2 momentum shift came on conversions by freshman forward Megan Jefferson, Brewster, and Dominick. In fact, Dominick had the Knights' final seven points of the quarter, giving her team a 51-49 lead by the end of it.

Dominick continued that production with four more at the start of the fourth quarter and Orts' third 3-pointer of the night made it a five-point ART U advantage. Up 64-58 with four minutes left after a Brewster layup, Academy of Art was met with a quick 6-0 NDNU run to retie the game. With under a minute in regulation, Orts knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game, but Sydney Chase nailed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to tie things yet again at 72-72. A long-range attempt by the Dominick in the waning seconds did not fall and overtime ensued.

ART U got off to a good start with a Pryor layup off the overtime tip-off, but a 5-0 response by the Argos gave them the lead. Orts would tie up the ballgame at 77-77 with her career-high fourth triple of the contest, but Notre Dame de Namur sank seven of its final eight free throws to eventually put the visitors ahead by five, 84-79 with a little over a minute to go. A Dominick layup with 55 seconds left made it a one-possession game and NDNU left the door open after multiple misses, but an potentially game-tying attempt from distance did not fall for the Knights late and the Argos held on to win 84-81.
