Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Point Loma Comes From Behind To Defeat Knights

SAN FRANCISCO – Despite establishing a double-digit lead early in the second quarter, Academy of Art women's basketball was unable to counter a 17-4 Point Loma run which ultimately earned the Sea Lions a 94-62 win inside Kezar Pavilion on Monday evening. ART U's senior tandem of guard Jazzlynn Brewster and forward Helena Orts combined for 36 points in the loss.

Midway through the first quarter, the Urban Knights went from down three to up four, executing a 7-0 run capped by Brewster's 3-pointer. An offensive flurry came in the final two minutes as Academy of Art hit its third and fourth triples of the frame, finishing with an 8-2 burst and taking a 20-11 lead by the end of the first 10 minutes.

Orts free throws pushed the advantage to 11 early in the second, however, PLNU had a rebuttal. It began with an 8-2 run then was later aided by the aforementioned 17-4 surge which had Point Loma ahead 36-30 at halftime.

Converting their first five shots out of the break, the Sea Lions quickly moved further ahead, leading 47-32 less than three minutes in. Orts and Brewster worked in tandem to keep ART U's offense flowing, but soon a 13-0 push put the visitors up by 25 at the tail end of the third quarter. PLNU's margin would swell beyond 30 points in the fourth and eventually finished at 94-62.

Academy of Art drops to 2-11 on the season and 1-4 in PacWest play. Brewster offered 19 points including a season-high three 3-pointers with seven rebounds and five steals. Orts added 17 points and eight rebounds while redshirt senior forward Pre'Franz Dominick contributed 10 rebounds and seven points.

Point Loma rises to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in conference action with Monday's win. Tayla Hepburn finished with 29 points (11-for-15 from the field) plus 14 rebounds, Cara Liggins had 24 points, and Roya Rustamzada posted 15 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists.

ART U will now have a break from competition until Dec. 30 when they travel to Fresno Pacific for their final game of the calendar year. A two-part Hawaii roadtrip awaits the Knights at the start of January.
