ART U Falls to Biola to Open Final Homestand

SAN FRANCISCO – Entering their final homestand of the season, Academy of Art welcomed in Biola Thursday morning for the program's first-ever match against the Eagles. Having a successful premiere season in NCAA Division II, Biola continued to roll, defeating the Urban Knights by the score of 3-0.

Despite the apparent disparity in the final score, ART U's defense looked impressive throughout, only allowing one goal until the final 90 seconds. In fact, the Knights' back line denied a total of 20 shots while facing 23 overall. In the first half alone, Academy of Art faced 12 shots (five on-goal) which were all saved by junior goalkeeper Morgan Wirz.

In the second half, the Eagles managed to get on the board just three and a half minutes into the period: a misplayed goal kick from Wirz landed right in front of Biola's Annmarie Alvarez who sent one in from the top of the box. It wasn't until the 89th-minute when the Eagles managed to score their second goal which was followed by their third with only 30 seconds remaining in the match.

Despite the strong, defensive-showing from the Urban Knights, ART U now drops to 1-14-1 overall and 1-10 in conference-play. In their upcoming match, Academy of Art will honor their six graduating seniors including: Maggie Alikpala-Wilson, Kendall Bozart, Abigail Chavez, Kaelyn Harbison, Laney Haviland, and Aliya Salas. The contest will begin at Noon on Saturday, November 4, against Point Loma.
