Emery Named PacWest Freshman of the Week

PacWest Volleyball Athletes of the Week (Oct. 9)

IRVINE, Calif. – Offering one of the most efficient single-match hitting percentages Academy of Art University volleyball has seen this past weekend, middle blocker Sadie Emery was rewarded with the honor of Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week. The award was based on games played Oct. 2-8.

After notching five kills with no errors against the Urban Knights' two nationally-ranked opponents during the week, Emery broke out for her best offensive performance of the season against Point Loma on Oct. 7. She keyed a 6-0 run with a kill in the second set and delivered the set-winner in the third, adding a pair of block assists along the way as well. Emery, who posted the program's eighth-highest single-match hitting percentage (.556), topped her previous kills career-high by one with 11 in the match.

"Sadie has really started to come into her own, especially on the offensive end," said head coach Ray Batalon. "She is continually improving each day and she was definitely an impact player for us [versus Point Loma]."

Emery completed the week with a glistening .545 hitting percentage while averaging 2.67 kills per set. She now leads ART U in hitting percentage, delivering kills at a .365 rate for the season.

This is Emery's first career PacWest weekly honor.
