Urban Knights Outdueled 2-0 in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – Academy of Art women's soccer (1-15-1, 1-10-1 PacWest) headed into a storm of Lancers offense on Thursday, facing 31 shots in the contest. Despite posting 11 saves in total, the Urban Knights fell 2-0 to CBU.

California Baptist (10-4-3, 9-1-2 PacWest) did most of their damage in the first half, recording 22 shots in the period. CBU's first goal came just six minutes into the contest when Miranda Hald was able to beat a pair of ART U defenders and score past the reach of junior goalkeeper Maggie Alikpala-Wilson. The Lancers made it 2-0 16 minutes later when Desarae Felix took a shot in traffic after a run down the middle that found its mark.

Trailing 2-0, sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Wirz took over duties in front of the net for the second half. Wirz did well to keep the Urban Knights' deficit at two, collecting four saves while facing nine shots. After getting off just one shot in the opening period, Academy of Art was able to take five more in the second, totaling six (one on goal) in the contest. Redshirt junior Kendall Bozart led the Urban Knights with two shots overall and four others were tied with one each. Despite allowing two goals, Alikpala-Wilson matched her season-high with seven saves for the second-consecutive and fifth-overall match.

"The second half we did a better job of being a bit more aggresive winning the ball and finding our targets up top," said head coach Katie Awerkamp. "We had a few chances and I'd like us to take that second half momentum and confidence from today and apply that to Saturday's game."

ART U will now head to Irvine, Calif. to face off with Concordia in their final match of the 2016 season.
