SAN FRANCISCO – In a game that served as rebound from the Urban Knights' loss to No. 25 Azusa Pacific, Academy of Art University women's basketball used a season-high 61 rebounds and 32 second-chance points to pull out an 81-58 win over new Pacific West Conference member Concordia. It was a 10-3 run midway through the third quarter that sealed the victory as both senior guard
Jasmin Guinn and senior center
Caron Brown contributed to their respective double-doubles with work on the offensive boards during that stretch inside Kezar Pavilion.
No more than four points separated the teams through the first eight minutes as both sides struggled shooting the basketball. Senior guard
Zoie Sheng's 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the first quarter put the Knights ahead 19-12 and that soon gave way to a 6-0 run to start the second quarter which reflected the style of play that was needed to win that night. All six of those points came on offensive rebounds with a pair of buckets by Brown and one from senior guard
Regina Camera that helped build an 11-point advantage.

Concordia worked the margin back down to six midway through the second, but after Guinn's fifth steal of the contest, she converted a buzzer-beating layup to push it back to double digits at halftime, 35-24. Continuing to score points of second and sometimes third chances, ART U increased its lead to 17 points at the halfway mark of the third quarter when five straight Knights layups demonstrated the team's determination to get easy baskets.
With a three-point play by Guinn, a layup from junior forward
D'Andree Galipeau, and finally a 3-pointer by senior guard
Sha'Nice Storey, it seemed as though every big play was on the Academy of Art end of the court. The dust settled on the third quarter and the Knights had pushed a 20-point advantage which made the fourth virtually inconsequential. However, ART U removed any doubt of their victory by starting the final quarter on a 12-0 run that featured seven points from Camera.

The 81-58 win was the Knights' 16th of the year as they move to 16-5 overall and 11-1 atop the PacWest standings. Camera finished with a team-high 17 points, nine rebounds, and four assists while Guinn also stuffed the stat sheet with her ninth double-double of the year (16 points, 12 rebounds) along with seven steals to tie her season-high. Sheng was close to the program's first triple-double with 15 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds while Brown had her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Storey's 10 points made it five ART U players to score in double figures. Academy of Art's 61 rebounds were the sixth-most in program history and it was the team's fifth game of the year with 20+ assists.
Concordia sustained its sixth consecutive loss to make its record 2-15 overall and 1-11 in conference. Brittany Stafford led CUI with 12 points and nine rebounds, but Tyler Cockom was on her way to a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists in 30 minutes. Besides the Knights' second-chance points, 27 points came off 25 Eagles turnovers.
Academy of Art now looks ahead to this Saturday, Jan. 30 when they host Chaminade at 1 p.m. back inside Kezar Pavilion. Prior to tipoff, the Urban Knights will honor their four 1,000 Point Club members,
Jasmin Guinn,
Regina Camera,
Zoie Sheng, and
Sha'Nice Storey, with a special ceremony.
