TURLOCK, Calif. — Right back to his ways from a season ago went senior midfielder
Kristof Urbanyi on Thursday, but two goals from the Academy of Art University men's soccer team's returning leading scorer were not enough to complete a comeback on the road at Stanislaus State as the Warriors escaped with a 3-2 win at Warrior Stadium.
Â
Urbanyi scored two penalty kick goals in the second half, one in the 50th minute to make it 2-1 and one in the 69th minute that made it 3-2. His two penalty goals gave him the Academy of Art (0-1) program record for penalty kicks made (4). They also moved him into a tie for third in career goals (11) and into fifth place in career points (27). It was Urbanyi's third multi-goal game of his career after scoring two goals in a game twice last season.

Freshman goalkeeper
Kevin Mendez made his debut in goal Thursday, making four saves. Redshirt freshmen
Nick Santhiago and
Jordan Seech also earned their first official starts for the Urban Knights after sitting out last season. Freshman defender
Bobby Gutierrez and rookie midfielder Matthew Rodriguez also started in their debuts Thursday.
Â
The two halves contrasted heavily, with Stanislaus State (1-0) outscoring ART U 2-0 and outshooting them 8-0 before halftime. The Knights came back out and outscored Stan State 2-1 and outshot them 9-7 in the second half.
Â
The Warriors created chances early and finally broke through in the 22nd minute when Manny Villegas gave the team a 1-0 lead after picking up a soft touch from Daniel Kuczynski, who had collected a loose ball in front of the net.
Â
Stanislaus State's second goal came just before halftime from a long kick by Warrior 'keeper Russ Klabough. The ball took one bounce into the box and Danny Valenzuela headed it in over Mendez for a 2-0 lead.
Â
The final tally by the Warriors came in the 52nd minute – a two-minute response following Urbanyi's first PK to get the goal back. Ryan Chaney scored off another long pass by Stanislaus, this time from Luis Hernandez, who served it from the back to a streaking Chaney, who then slipped it low for the eventual game-winning goal.

The Urban Knights next face Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Stadium.
