SAN FRANCISCO-It was a day of celebration that would not be dampened. Even though ART U dropped their season finale to California Baptist University 5-1, that did not spoil the fun of senior day.
Â
Before the match, all of the seniors walked out with friends and family and were recognized for all of their years of service with the university. But once the whistle blew, it was time to get down to business.
Â
For the first 20 minutes of the match, ART U put their defense on display, foiling several attempts on goal. It wasn't until the 21st minute when CBU's Jr. M/D Angelique Carrillo was able to knock one in after Fr. M Miranda Martinez's shot ricocheted off of the post. It was 4-0 when the Urban Knights struck back in the 78th minute. Fr. M
Alice Michell was awarded a penalty kick and blasted her second goal of the season into the far side of the net. The Lancers scored once more in the 83rd minute for a final tally of 5-1.
Â
Despite conceding five goals, So. GK
Maggie Alikpala-Wilson kept many more from going through; on the day, she had seven saves. On the season, Alikpala-Wilson posted the third most saves per game in the entire conference (5.27).
