Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Urban Knights Enjoy Senior Day, 2-0 Victory

Incredible defense and persistent offense prevailed in ART U's 2-0 win over CBU.

SAN FRANCISCO-With 33 seconds remaining in the first half, Sr. M Kristof Urbanyi took a shot from 25 yards out on the near side; it sailed across the pitch and just beyond CBU's So. GK Noah Oyler's reach into the far side of the net. This goal made the history books as it netted Urbanyi the most points in program history (37) and a tie for the most game-winning goals (7). This was also the only goal that ART U would need as they put a cap on their season with a 2-0 victory on senior day.

Before the match, the Urban Knights' seven seniors (pictured above) walked out with friends and family and were honored at the center of the pitch. On the whole, it was a classic ART U match for the seniors to remember as their last game.

The result would have been much different had it not been for the terrific defensive performance put on by the Academy of Art. The Lancers continued to put pressure on Fr. GK Kevin Mendez, taking 25 shots on the day. Mendez was up for the task however, tallying 11 saves. On the year, Mendez ranked second in the conference in saves per game (5.83), third with five shutouts, and sixth in save percentage (.795). The saves, plus many blocks contributed to CBU being shut out for the fourth time this season. In the 67th minute, Jr. M/F Justin Erhunmwunsee contributed his fourth goal of the season when he dribbled into the box to face CBU's GK one-on-one: Oyler launched himself at the incoming ball, but Erhunmwunsee's shot proved to be too powerful as Oyler could not hold on, allowing the ball to trickle by into the net.
