PACIFICA, Calif. – Academy of Art University men's soccer stayed right with visiting Sonoma State for 90 minutes, but it was the Seawolves who emerged victorious 2-0 in the end. ART U had more attempts on goal through 90 minutes out at Fairmont Field on Friday afternoon yet SSU found the back of the net once in each half for the win.
Both teams were aggressive in the early going as they combined for five offsides calls in the opening 12 minutes. However, after multiple Sonoma State attempts were blocked, the Seawolves put one through in the 28th minute. It was Sean Callahan who headed the ball after quick touches from Ryan Rohane and Brenton Frame guided him to the far post.

That 1-0 margin would hold up through halftime despite sophomore midfielder
Matthew "Mateo" Rodriguez ' chance on frame in the 36th minute. SSU went up 2-0 with another header goal from Callahan in the 53rd minute, benefiting from a cross by Raad Aljabi to the center of the box.
The score only fueled ART U's intensity with a barrage of shots coming in the 79th minute. Senior midfielder
Kristof Urbanyi had the first, junior midfielder
Justin Erhunmwunsee attempted the second, and Rodriguez had the final all within 10 seconds prior to a foul. Unfortunately, Academy of Art could not produce a goal on that possession and the Seawolves held on for the 2-0 victory after 90 minutes.
ART U sustains just its third loss of the season, dropping to 5-3-1 overall. Five different Urban Knights accounted for the team's six shots on goal in the match.
Sonoma State rises to 6-4-1 overall with the victory. Both goals were scored by Callahan who had zero goals coming into the match. Rohane, Frame, and Aljabi each provided assists while goalkeeper Mitch North earned the shutout with six saves in 90 minutes.
Academy of Art will return to PacWest Conference play on Sunday when the Knights host Holy Names out at Skyline College in San Bruno. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. following the women's match.
