BELMONT, Calif.- Defense: That word sums up Thursday afternoon's 1-0 loss for Academy of Art men's soccer match versus Notre Dame de Namur (8-6-2, 6-3-1 PacWest). Although NDNU did not score until the 68
th minute, the game did not lack for action. Â
Kevin Mendez, ART U's freshmen goalkeeper from Santa Cruz, endured an onslaught of 24 shots (nine on goal), but only allowed one to reach the back of the net.
Â
On the other side of the pitch, the Urban Knights got off six shots (five on goal). Most of these were taken late in the game by the senior Hungarian midfielder,
Kristof Urbanyi. Not only did Urbanyi take three of ART U's five shots on goal, but his endurance was also on display as he played all 90 minutes.
Â
Head coach
Mike Keller said he is "definitely looking to move forward after a tough fought game against a good team and [looks] to…make some chances earlier in the game."
Â
Keller also mentioned that his team was able to "play much better after the goal and fought hard to respond. [They] play much better in those games [they start fast] and it'll be a real key [against Dominican]."
Â
Looking forward, men's soccer will take on 12th place rival, Dominican University of California (2-13-0, 2-8-0 PacWest) at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday. The Academy of Art, now 6-7-2, 4-5-1 (PacWest) will look to return to .500 during their final road match of the regular season.Â
