Phoenix, AZ -- Rachael Smith had a season to remember for the Academy of Art University women's volleyball team, and in the final week of the season she was recognized by being named to the PacWest Fantastic 15 for matches contested Nov. 5-Nov. 11. Smith helped lead the Urban Knights to a 1-1 week, and led the conference in assist average. The honors were announced Monday by the PacWest Office in Phoenix.
Smith recorded 42 assists against Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday to mark her 10th game this year with 40-plus assists. Her 13.0 assists per set was the highest in the conference last week, and the freshman finished the year averaging 9.53 assists per set on the season, which ranked fourth in the PacWest. She was one of five players to top the 900-assist mark, totaling 915 sets on the year.
Smith's debut campaign for the Urban Knights also included the third-most blocks on the team, tallying 58 total blocks and averaging 0.60 blocks per set. Last week, her 1.25 blocks per set were good for seventh in the league. This marked her fifth appearance on the Fantastic 15 this season.
