2009 Bronco Invitational Women's Individual & Team Results

Irinel Zamfir achieved a new personal best and the Urban Knights had an impressive showing today at the 2009 Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University at Baylands Regional Park.
Zamfir captured a 4th place finish in the meet with a time of 19:25 to trump her previous career best (19:36) by more than 10 seconds. As a team, Academy of Art University took 7th ahead of teams such as Pacific, Simpson, and Notre Dame De Namur of the Pacific West Conference.
Crossing the line behind Zamfir was sophomore Denisse Correa who captured 16th place overall with a time of 20:03 (over 20 seconds less than her finish at the USF Invitational). In 50th place, freshman Stacey Toth completed the race in 21:34 for her best time on a 5k course this season.
Of the eligible runners, junior Monica Anguiano was not far behind Toth as she took 56th with a career-best time of 22:03. The Knights' fifth finisher was junior Miranda Wiley who finished in 80th place (27:25) sporting yet another AAU season best time.
Sacramento State was had the top team finish with 39 points despite the fact that Cal State East Bay's Nancy Velazquez crossed the line in first out of all eligible runners. CSU East Bay was 2nd as a team while San Jose State University took 3rd. Academy of Art had 206 total points and finished in 7th out of 14 teams. AAU bested Mills (218), Sacramento Community College (247) and Pacific (250) amongst others.
The Urban Knights will be able to participate in the Pacific West Conference Championships at Golden Gate Park on Oct. 31 if they can complete one more race as a team.
